Auditions for actors living in our local area are held periodically throughout the year (and as needed) at the Rocky Hock Playhouse in Washington, NC. The purpose of these auditions is to get to know the local talent pool! Jeff and Gloria Emmerich (owners and producers at the Playhouse) are looking forward to getting to know local actors interested in working with them who are from the Washington/Greenville/Williamston/New Bern/Bath areas—and, anyone else within driving range of the “new” Rocky Hock Playhouse in Washington. Auditions for the Rocky Hock summer production of David, A Man After God's Own Heart are currently underway. Local actors should call to set up an audition time with Jeff and Gloria Emmerich.
Please email Jeff Emmerich (jeff@rockyhockplayhouse.com) or call him at (252) 339-0518 if you have questions. In our auditions each actor is given 10 minutes and their time slot is specifically assigned. We encourage you to come early so you can fill out an audition application. It is a good idea to have your “stage experience” printed out ahead of time so you can clip it to the audition form when you come to the theatre for your audition. Group auditions will not be necessary so you will only need to stay for your private audition at the time assigned. You can find general auditioning tips by going to this website: http://www.essortment.com/all/auditiontheate_rdfs.htm.
The theatre is located at 230 E. 8th Street, Washington, NC 27889. Children through high school age are sometimes cast but do so for experience only. Leading and supporting actor’s stipends are negotiated privately. Please look at the rehearsal and performance schedules carefully. Except for high school young people who can get out of school on work release early, children are typically not able to be in shows except during the summer because of our weekday matinees. Cast members will need to be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays no later than 1:00pm and most of the day on Saturdays in order to be considered.
Those who wish to audition for a position in the chorus must be able to sing. We are a musical theatre and your voice must blend and you must be able to sing in chorus with others. Though it is not always the case supporting and leading characters are typically soloists.
Again, you can contact Jeff Emmerich by phone if you have questions: (252) 339-0518.
Please read the following information. It will help you understand our history and goals as a theatre. It will also give you a lot of good information regarding the audition process in general.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Rocky Hock Playhouse is an “actor/singer theatre.” Casts are not always large which gives an ensemble feel to many productions. With regard to our musicals we employ individuals who play either leading, supporting, or chorus roles. Actors are sometimes extended contracts for multiple productions. We have had actors from 27 different states over the past 13 years and a number of them have returned many times to work at our theatre. Local actors are encouraged to audition. All actors are encouraged to notify the producers if they are interested in returning for future productions. Depending on their circumstances housing is sometimes available through the production company for actors who live out of the area. Auditions are open until all roles are filled and auditions are usually conducted privately unless otherwise announced. It is advisable to audition as early as possible so that you can be considered for the production(s) of your choice.
The Rocky Hock Playhouse relocated from Edenton, NC to Washington, NC in January of 2009.
